Aloha Friday

It's Friday so it can only mean one thing. It's time for an Island life's Aloha Friday. My question to you is this:

Do you have a must see TV show? One that you almost plan your day or week around? I hate to admit this but during American Idol season,I can become a total Idol junkie. I know. It's crazy considering I am old enough to be their really cool MOM Aunt. My friends and I will facebook and twitter each other during a show. Who should go and who should stay. If you are on twitter and love Idol, feel free to add me. Or even if you don't like Idol and still want to add me. I think I have my Twitter button on the side of my blog. If not just comment you want it and I will post it.

Don't forget to head over to Island's life and answer her question. Hope everyone has a great weekend......

Spring Fever

We went to the park today to enjoy this beautiful spring day. Ok. It's not technically Spring yet. The last two days have been so gorgeous that it feels like Spring. It's been in the middle 60's!! That is so unheard of for this time of year. We are usually shoveling snow or spreading salt mixture on our sidewalks to get rid of the ice. Listening for school delays or closings. The list is endless this time of year. Last night we cooked on the grill. Hubby is out driving with our 17 year old and mentioned he's thinking of cooking on the grill again tonight. Woo Hoo! A man who wants to cook me dinner? I'm all for that. HA!

So, tell me is anyone else experiencing extremely warm temperatures this winter?

Wordless wednesday-

I was cleaning out our storage room the other day and came across these little gems. Years ago I was into cross stitching. Big time. My daughters fell in love with threads. They loved the colors and playing with them. My niece taught all of my girls how to make bracelets out of threads. That's how we ended up with that container. You should see the ones I have for my cross stitching. Way too many. My niece now has an etsy account selling her bracelets. I'm thinking of offering her the threads. But then again...

Honestly, doesn't looking at those threads make you want to get crafty??

Happy Presidents Day

I haven't had much time to blog this weekend. Actually not much time to be on twitter or facebook either. If you remember from this post, I have been researching my family tree. I am actually trying to do three different family trees at the same time. I know. What the heck was I thinking? Any Hoo, Ancestry is running a special Friday thru Monday. You can look up any 1930's census report for free. Needless to say I have been one busy girl. I have a couple of great/great grand parents that I have never been able to find on paper. Actually no one in the family seemed to remember their real first names. Can you imagine trying to do a family tree and not know names of family members? It is HARD! My mom and I were talking on the phone yesterday and she remembered that she had a container of old obits and newspaper clippings. When she got the phone she went looking for them. The very first one she finds? My Great grandmothers. It listed her parents and they were the ones I didn't have names for. What were the odds that was the first one in the box? Weird. My Mom thought it was if my great grandmother was saying You hoo these are my parents. To say I was excited was an understatement. I'm sure I will be up tonight late looking up more family before the free offer ends. If you get a chance check it out. In April they will be releasing the 1940's census report. My grandmother and her sisters should be on these. Can't wait!

Aloha Friday

It's Friday so it can only mean one thing. It's time for an Island life's Aloha Friday. My question to you is this:

Is Valentine's day a big deal in your house? We decided when we had our first daughter that we would celebrate as a family instead of a couple. My parents had done the same for my brother and I when we were growing up. I usually cook a dinner and we exchange small gifts. I honestly don't like the holiday much. That whole "if you don't have someone special in your life you're a loser kind of thing". I have/had many single friends who used to cry on this holiday. It broke my heart. I never wanted my girls to feel like they have to have a boyfriend in their lives to feel special. And that's why we celebrate as a family. The older they get it's getting harder to do that. 2 out of 3 of my daughters have boyfriends. HA!

Head over to Island's life and answer her question too.....

Wordless Wednesday~Snowman sort of

Look who finally got some snow! Last Wednesday night we finally got a few inches of snow. My 4yr old was so excited. He couldn't wait to make a snowman. Unfortunately it was not the kind of snow to make a snowman. It was just too powdery. Major disappointment. He lucked out because on Friday night it snowed some more. It was the right kind of snow to make snowmen with but it was barely two inches. We were cracking up because as we were rolling the snow it was taking it completely off the grass. Notice the bare spots in the background? HA! I realize it is probably the most pathetic snowman you have ever seen. But,hey it made a 4 year old boy so happy for a few hours. The snow had melted by dinner time. That was a whole other meltdown in the Burg house.

Happy Sweethearts day

Hope everyone had a nice day today with their family or friends. We kept our day low key. Hubby and I decided after our first daughter was born we would celebrate the day as a family instead of a couple. (I just feel it's one of those made up holidays that seem to prey on the single people. Or put undue pressure on married couples. Who needs that pressure??) We always tried to make the kids feel just as special on this day and teach them they don't have to be a couple to enjoy the day. We I cook a nice dinner at home and buy the kids trinkets( Gifts. I have always called it that. Not sure why.)

Today I tried a different recipe. This morning a put a chicken roaster in one crock pot and cheesy potatoes in another crock pot. While half of dinner was cooking Bubby and I ran out to get some last minute trinkets that I forgot last week. I treated myself to a frappe on the way home. And some fries. It smelled so good coming home to the chicken cooking. Yum! We delivered the Valentines that Bubby made for the neighborhood kids. We actually made a Valentine with a bag of treats for our good friend's dog. Bubby isn't in school and doesn't get a chance to hand out Valentines to other kids. He had a ball. He was practically running to the houses. I'm actually not sure if schools do Valentine cards/parties anymore. I know they stopped doing Halloween parties and parades. We came home and ate our lunch. Hubby came home early and spent most of the afternoon with us. Cheerleader had school and then went over to her boyfriend's house. Foo had work right after school. We only had two kids for dinner. The chicken was extremely tender. It just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. The cheesy potatoes are no fail recipe. A veggie mix and corn followed by cornbread made up the meal tonight. Dessert. Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. I think I gained 10 pounds tonight. I highly recommend doing a crock pot meal for special dinners. No pressure around 5 o'clock trying to get everything done. I think this is the first dinner I could relax. Trust me when I say that doesn't happen to often.

Happy Valentine's day!

The loss of a legend.....

We were having a quiet Saturday night watching Peanuts Valentine special when the news broke into the program. Whitney Houston was found dead. That's all it said. I can't say I was extremely surprised. She has been battling drug abuse for years. I'm just shocked that hubby and I lost another person who represented our childhood. Hubs and I meet when I was almost 17 at an underage dance club. We danced to many Whitney songs back in the day. Not to mention all the songs I would sing into my hairbrush. Yep. I did. I know cheesy. HA! I think it is sad when the drugs are more important than the people in your life. I don't know the demons that lead her down the addiction path but I hope she finally found peace.

Rest in Peace Whitney. You will forever be in our hearts.

Aloha Friday

It's Friday so it can only mean one thing. It's time for an Island life's Aloha Friday. My question to you is this:

What is your favorite childhood movie? I actually have two that I could watch over and over again. The Goonies. I love how Steven Spielburg made a kids version of the Indiana Jones series. I don't know why but this movie still makes me smile. I know it's a little cheesy. *This year for Christmas I asked(and got) the 25th anniversary addition of this movie. Yep. I'm dorky that way. HA!

My second favorite is The adventures of babysitting. I think it's because of that whole babysitting when you are a teen thing. Talk about a cast of people who all went on to do other things. Elisabeth Shue will be starting on CSI soon. Thor has been on Law and Order for years. "So Cool Mike" has been on West Wing. "Daryl Coppersmith" Has been in rent both on Broadway and the movie. Check out the cast list and you will see they all have been in things you have probably watched. I heart the 80's. HA!

Don't forget to head over to Island's life and answer her question. Hope everyone has a great weekend......

Updates....

We finally got a little of the white stuff yesterday and last night. It wasn't enough to make a snowman but it didn't cause any school cancellations or delays. My kind of snow. I just love snow on the ground. It just makes everything brighter. I can't stand the dark early thing at nighttime. Too depressing.

Hubby finally went to the doctor yesterday for the cough he had since last week. It turns out the poor guy has walking pneumonia. Ugh. It doesn't surprise me that much. The type of cancer he had effects his immune system. We always have to watch when he gets sick or gets an infection. If being sick wasn't bad enough, on Sunday he knocked a crown off one of his teeth while he was eating. (Ever since his chemo he has had nothing but problems with his teeth.) Monday when he went to the dentist they told him they have to extracted the whole tooth out. So tomorrow guess where he is going? It's really not his week. Poor guy!

We heard back from the insurance company. They will give us enough money to replace all of the kitchen cabinets. I wasn't expecting that. In between illnesses and teeth falling out we have been looking at kitchen cabinets. HA! I can't wait to get my kitchen back together. I kind of miss my dishwasher. OK. I really miss my dishwasher. HA! I've been waiting for the water and electric bill to come in the mail. I'm curious if we save a lot more money by not using the dishwasher. We'll see.

Happy Thursday.........

Wordless wednesday-NY Giants

Hubby and Bubby woke up sick on Sunday and we decided not to have anyone over to watch the game. I am a huge Giants fan. It killed me to not have a Super Bowl party. I took this photo of us while we were lying around watching the game. Even sick I think he's still a cutie. 😄

Happy Tuesday

We are still a little under the weather in the Burg house. Seriously this bug has got to leave soon. I honestly believe its because of the weather or should I say the lack of winter. (Last Tuesday morning I spotted a skunk running across my neighbors lawn. That's how warmish it has been lately.)The day started off unseasonably warm this morning. I left the dogs out in my pjs and spotted a cardinal in one of our little trees. I stayed outside to make sure they didn't harm love on it too much. The bird just sat there with no care in the world. I ran in the house and got my camera. Still didn't fly away. After a few minutes my dogs noticed it and started barking. The poor thing took off and my dogs followed. He managed to get away before my hunting dogs got him. I was out there for almost 15 minutes with no coat on and still wasn't cold. I know it seems like all I do is complain about the weather on here and twitter but I have a really good reason. I just don't want to get snow/cold weather at the end of March. These warm days we have had are making me long for the spring already. I can't stand the thought of wearing a cute Easter outfit and having to cover it up with a winter coat. Two years ago we had over three feet of snow on the ground this time of year. This year we have only had two snowfalls. I don't think they totaled 6 inches. If we have a huge snowfall this year remind me how much I wanted snow. I'm sure I will be complaining because I have everyone stuck in the house with me. HA! So is anyone else experiencing unusual temperatures this year?

*No birds or snowman(sigh)were harmed in this post*

Super bowl Sunday

Hubby and Bubby woke up sick today and I'm not a 100%. We had a very low key kind of day. No church. No hanging with friends. No going to a friends house. Most of all no awesome Giants super bowl party. *Insert sad face here* Did I mention the Giants are my favorite team? Ever. I can't remember ever being sick on Superbowl Sunday before. It just stinks. Bubby and I are parked on the love seat and Hubby has the couch. I keep calling us the pitiful bunch. HA!

The score is 15 Giants-17 NE at the end of the 3rd. I hoping the Giants can pull it off. Did anyone see the Ferris Bueller commercial yet? I have been dying to see that one. I only left the couch once. I was afraid I would miss it. HA!

ETA~I just saw the Ferris commercial. I love me some Matthew!

ETA(again) The Giants won! 21-17. YEA!

Aloha Friday

It's Friday so it can only mean one thing. It's time for an Island life's Aloha Friday. My question to you is this:

Who are you rooting for in the Super Bowl? I will be cheering on my Giants. In between watching the commercials of course. Let's face it sometimes the commercials are more entertaining then the game. I just hope the game is very evenly matched. I hate when it's a shut out.

Don't forget to head over to Island's life and answer her question. Hope everyone has a great weekend......

Wordless Wednesday~Giants

4 more days until the SuperBowl! Guess who I'm rooting for??
