Our latest addition.....

Looks like we have a new member of our Burg family. After minutes weeks of looking Hubby bought a wave runner. I swear last week we were looking at vacation homes and the week before that we were looking at new cars. Saturday he picked it up and I haven't seen him since. Just kidding. He's spent most of the weekend polishing it in the driveway and the other half spent taking a boat test online. BTW that boat test is long and hard! I have to take my test sometime this week if I want to drive the wave runner this weekend. I'm not looking forward to taking it. Ugh. It's amazing what you have to do to drive a boat, wave runner or car but you only have to pee on a stick to become a parent. Kind of sad when you think about it.

Anywhoo. This past weekend I found a major break in my family research. I actually found a family member online! I think she is my 3rd cousin on my great grand mother's side. This is the side of the family that no one seemed to know much about. I didn't think I would ever find anyone on that side. I'm so excited!!!! Hopefully she won't be to frightened when she hears more about my Grandmother's side of the family. The more research I do on my grandmother the more I think she must of been very questionable. I see now why my Mom and her mother did what they could to keep me away from her. It's been an interesting journey to say the least. I hoping to visit the area where most of my family is from sometime this summer or in the fall. It's a bit of a hike from where I live so I have to make it on a day when I have a lot of time. Finding time in this family is ...well impossible. HA!

Have a great Monday......

So, Who do you think you are?

I can't say enough about that show. Last year I started watching "Who do you think you are"? for the first time. If you aren't familiar with the show it's about finding your roots. Every week they feature a different celebrity looking for someone in their family chart. Ancestry.com sponsors the show and they teach you how to use their search engine to find the hardest people on your list. They give tips and tibits to help you in your quest. I love how they give you incite on the whys of your family history. It's no big secret I have been researching my family tree for a while. You can find the story here and here. This past Friday it was Reba McEntire. I *heart* Reba! Reba was searching for her mom's side of the family when she found her 6th great Grandfather. She couldn't figure out why his father would have sent his 9 year old boy to America without any adults. Not just for the trip but as in no one here in the USA that he knew. The historians were able to explain to her the Whys. Those of you who have ever done a family tree understand this. How many times have you uncovered a fact on your search but don't understand the Whys? A lot of time records only list the facts. I found a Why recently myself. I found my great grandmother on a census report when she was 14. The report lists her as living with step grandparents. I would love to know why she was living with them and what happened to her parents. The biggest Why is who are these people and what is the connection with them.  I have asked around my family and nobody has any knowledge of her parents. Not even names. Nor do they know who these people are and whatever happened to them. She apparently never mentioned anything of her past. Kind of sad when you think about it. See how much easier it would be if I had the Whys. I wonder if I could get "Who do you think you are" to do my family tree? You know, since I'm a non famous celebrity. ;)

If you have never watched the show before check it out. Check your listings but here it's on Friday nights at 8. 29 days until they release the 1940's census report. Woo Hoo! Can you tell I'm excited? My grandmother will be in this report plus my other grandparents marriage should be on this too.

Happy Presidents Day

I haven't had much time to blog this weekend. Actually not much time to be on twitter or facebook either. If you remember from this post, I have been researching my family tree. I am actually trying to do three different family trees at the same time. I know. What the heck was I thinking? Any Hoo, Ancestry is running a special Friday thru Monday. You can look up any 1930's census report for free. Needless to say I have been one busy girl. I have a couple of great/great grand parents that I have never been able to find on paper. Actually no one in the family seemed to remember their real first names. Can you imagine trying to do a family tree and not know names of family members? It is HARD! My mom and I were talking on the phone yesterday and she remembered that she had a container of old obits and newspaper clippings. When she got the phone she went looking for them. The very first one she finds? My Great grandmothers. It listed her parents and they were the ones I didn't have names for. What were the odds that was the first one in the box? Weird. My Mom thought it was if my great grandmother was saying You hoo these are my parents. To say I was excited was an understatement. I'm sure I will be up tonight late looking up more family before the free offer ends. If you get a chance check it out. In April they will be releasing the 1940's census report. My grandmother and her sisters should be on these. Can't wait!
