Aloha Friday

Look who is back for Aloha Friday?? Or just back blogging in general?? It's been a long last few weeks.

If you could go back to high school as the person you are now, would you be in the same cliques you were then?

I would most likely not be in the same clique. I let people boss me around a little too much back then. *Read Bullied* There were so many times I should have spoken up or maybe defended myself a little more. Now don't get me wrong,my friends were all different walks of life. I was friends with cheerleaders, brainy, jocks, and farmers. I was even in the FFA. I just had one girl who her whole purpose in life was to make mine miserable even if it meant including others into her imaginary war with me. I know if I went back to school I would not be allowing that to happen again. Thank Goodness we didn't have facebook back then. I can only imagine how much MORE she would have made my life or others.

Aloha Friday

It's Friday and that can only mean one thing. It's time once again for Island's life question of the week.

Do you find Social networking a blessing or a curse? We have seen it both ways in our house. I love the fact I can keep up with family and friends via facebook or twitter but boy has it bit us on the butt too. Hubby learned that the most innocent of posts can lead to talks with the boss. Funny thing he wasn't even friends with his boss but someone he works with said something to the boss. He has since deleted everyone he works with. Last month I learned thru facebook that my Mom's brother had died. My uncle's son had posted how his Dad had passed on. Everyone else had gotten phone calls including my grandmother's sister and another uncle's ex wife. They had been divorced for 10 years! Yep. Someone forgot to tell me. I just chalk it up to lessons learned. Let's face it we never had this type of social networking before. I'm thinking by the time our kids are our age they will have it perfected! Maybe??

Aloha Friday

It's time once again for Island's life question of the week. What did you think of season premiere week?

Some of my shows weren't as good as I thought they would. Kind of disappointing. CSI:NY is on tonight and I am hoping it is great! I missed that show. I spent this past week trying to find watch my shows on tv. Did anyone else notice how they changed some of the shows line ups??? What's up with that? That's how shows loose viewers. I already see several shows I am no longer able to watch because of other shows on. We do have a DVR but thanks to our awesome awful cable company it is not compatible with our HD box. Actually I haven't found one DVR that is. Nothing like trying to get you to rent their box. Sigh.

Aloha Friday

It's time once again for Island's life question of the week. What is your favorite thing about the fall or Autumn?

I really love the fall. We are in a region that has some of the prettiest leaf changes. We get drenched in bright colors for a few weeks. There is nothing like driving around and just seeing some of the most brilliant colors ever. When you mix that in with pumpkin patches, corn mazes, apple cider and campfires you can't help but love fall.

Aloha Friday......

It's Friday and that can only mean one thing. It's time again for Aloha Friday. This week's question is:

In our techy filled world is there anything you do that is still old school? I am probably one of the few people who still use a personal paper calendar. I never gave it much thought until yesterday. I was at the Christian school trying to sign ny son up for classes while the Secretary was on the phone with the pre-school teacher. The teacher was trying to set up a time when I could come in and tour the school. I knew I had appointments on the days she wanted me to come in but couldn't remember the times they were. If I had them on my iphone I could have just pulled up ical and made the appointment. I personally just like to see it written down on paper somewhere. I feel I have a better chance at remembering something that way. Weird for someone who uses an iphone and facebooks, twitters, and checks her email when not home.

Aloha Friday.....

It's Friday and that can only mean one thing. It's time again for Aloha Friday. This week's question is:

Do you and your spouse have date nights? I was reading an article online and the writer was saying how she and her husband do not have date nights. As I was reading the article,it occurred to me, neither do we. I'm not sure why I never thought about that before. We have other friends who do,but we just never did. We married really young and had our girls after 2 1/2 years of marriage. When our last daughter was born we had 3 girls under 3 and 1/2 years old. I guess we just never had the time or the money. The money mostly. Through out the years we were always busy with the girls. Cheerleading, soccer, drama club and other activities seemed to eat up a lot of time. Not to mention Hubby was always busy working and I did a lot as a "single"parent. Now that the girls are older we seem to have a little more free time. Our youngest daughter is 16 almost 17. She works and drives not much she needs us for anymore. Hubby, our 5 year old and I are often by ourselves. It's weird. Very weird to go from constant chaos to having downtime. It is a nice change of pace especially when you have a stressful teenager that you live with. I find myself looking forward to our quiet time to recharge my batteries. I think it is also a nice benefit for our son who gets more on on one time with us.

Enjoy your weekend!

Aloha Friday

It's Friday and that can only mean one thing. It's time again for Aloha Friday. This week's question is:

Are you a coffee or a tea drinker? Here at the Burg house we are a divided bunch. I am a coffee drinker. Hot and cold. Doesn't matter which one just as long as I get coffee into me. For some reason it makes my family happier when I have coffee in my system. :) My two youngest daughters are hot tea and ice coffee drinkers. My oldest prefers ice tea and ice coffee. Hubby was only a hot coffee drinker until I got a frappe machine and a Keurig coffee maker. Now whenever he hears either one brewing he's there with a cup waiting for some. HA!

Aloha Friday

It's Friday and that can only mean one thing. It's time again for Aloha Friday. This weeks question is:

Which Dallas show do you prefer? Old school Dallas or new TNT Dallas? My teen years were in the 80's and we based our Friday nights around the old Dallas. There was something about tuning in every Friday night to see what the Ewing's were up to on Southfork ranch. That show made me want to move to Dallas or at least own a ranch. In high school I did join the FFA because of that show. Umm... I'll save that for another time. I'm always very skeptical when Hollywood tries to turn a classic into a new hip show. Imagine my surprise when I tuned in the first night and have been watching every Wednesday night since. Some might say I'm basing my Wednesday nights around this show and might not be answering my phone. Or twittering or facebooking my two best friends during the show. Lies. All lies. ;)

Aloha Friday

It's time again for Aloha Friday. This weeks question is:

Do you like car shopping? I know its a weird question this week. Tonight Hubby and I are going to look at some SUVs. I have been putting this off. I absolutely hate car shopping. Let me rephrase that. I love looking at cars but hate the dealing. I hate when the dealers make it so difficult to purchase a car. I know what I want and how much I want to spend. Stop trying to get me to change my mind. And what's up with always having to ask your "manager" to come up with another deal. Drives me nuts. Talk about a waste of time for us. Ugh. Wish us luck that we find something and can make a deal. Have a great weekend.......

aloha friday

It's time again for Aloha Friday. This weeks question is:

Do you look forward to or dread when the kids are off for the summer? When my girls were younger I loved when they had off for the summer. It meant no running anyone to practices or school events. Time to just enjoy each other and have fun. We didn't have to do much. Some days we would have our good friends over and just swim. That's it. Nothing fancy. Nothing expensive. Just spend the day in our backyard cooking on the grill and swimming. Now that my girls are older. I.Dread.It. The last three summers I have had working teens but no teen drivers. Which means I spent more time in my car than home. I never realized how hard it was to coordinate every ones schedule. This year I have 2 drivers and my youngest daughter goes for her drivers test in a few weeks. Now  most days are spent listening to them fight with one another or us. The joys of teenage girls. HA! I can't understand why they can't coexist with one another for more than 5 minutes. It could either be a long or interesting summer. HA!

Aloha Friday.....

It's time again for Aloha Friday. This weeks question is:

What is the longest time you have gone without writing on your blog. This week I haven't written for a whole week. I know how pitiful that sounds. I'm ashamed to admit that's not the longest I have gone. My middle daughter is graduating tonight and I have a ton of stuff going on right now. One of them is Hubby's health and a teenager who just doesn't want to listen. Ugh. If only there were a few more hours in a day. :)

Aloha Friday

It's time again for Aloha Friday. This weeks question is:

What is on your summer reading list this year? I could really use some good book suggestions. I'm hoping since my son turned 5 in May maybe this summer I could actually read a book. You know something that's not a picture book or has more than one chapter. HA! The last time I read a book was the Harry Potter series. I know. It's been that long. Any ideas?

Aloha Friday

It's Friday so that can only mean one thing, it's time for Island's life question. My question to you this week is:

Would you ever allow your family to be on a reality show? We watch a lot of reality shows in the Burg house and it got me thinking. Would I allow cameras to follow my family's every move? To show us at our worst? No. I hate having my picture taken so there is no way I would ever be comfortable have a video camera in my face. I honestly believe a lot of those shows are staged. At least I hope so. I hate to think people actually act that way.

Aloha Friday

It's time again for Aloha Friday. This weeks question is:
What is your hobby? The thing you could not live without doing.

I love to sew. I make Halloween costumes. I love to make clothes for the kids. When they were younger I would make clothes for their dolls. I think their American Girl dolls had more clothes then the rest of us. LOL. As the girls got older I started making purses and tote bags. They would have birthday parties and I would make bags as party favors. I loved doing that. I don't sew as much as I use to. Chasing after a pre-schooler takes up most of my days now. Honestly there are not a lot of cute boy clothing patterns. I do make him a Halloween costume every year.

My second hobby is photography. I am a picture junkie. I love, love to take pictures. You can never take too many! I think it is to make up for the fact my parents didn't take a lot of pictures of me.

Aloha Friday...

It's Friday so that can only mean one thing, it's time for Island's life question. My question to you this week is:

Are you a nervous wreak when your children have to get a medical procure done? My 17 year old daughter is having her wisdom teeth removed today and I'm so nervous. Of course all 4 of them are impacted and the doctor has to put her under anesthesia. Ugh. Talk about my nerves. Did I mention I also have to keep a 4 year old entertained in the waiting room for over an hour? This should be good. HA! Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers today.

Aloha Friday

It's Friday so it can only mean one thing. It's time for an Island life's Aloha Friday. My question to you is this:

Are you a fan of Daylight Savings Time? I hate it. Don't get me wrong, I love the whole staying light longer. It's the whole changing every clock in the house and watches thing that drives me nuts. Let's not forget the worst thing about the whole hour forward. It completely messes up the kids. I thought it would only mess up my 4 year old but it was causing havoc on the teens this week as well. Can't we just pick a time and stick with it? Is it even necessary anymore to keep changing the clocks ahead?

Aloha Friday

It's Friday so it can only mean one thing. It's time for an Island life's Aloha Friday. My question to you is this:

If you had Facebook as a teen do you think your teenage years would have been harder? I believe mine would have been a nightmare. More than they already were. And they were tough. I'm not sure how kids today deal with facebook and the internet in general. I think about the girl in high school who made it her job to make my life a living heck. I can only imagine if she had facebook back then. Geesh,I don't think I would have finished high school. She was that mean.

Aloha Friday

It's Friday so it can only mean one thing. It's time for an Island life's Aloha Friday. My question to you is this:

What type of music do you listen to?  In our crazy house we listen to all types of music. Country to pop to rock to contemporary christian to big hair loving 80's. I do confess I don't like rap music. At all. A lot of the lyrics offend the heck out of me. *I don't mean to offend anyone who loves Rap music. I know a lot of people who find country music offensive and that's OK too.*

Don't forget to head over to Island's life and answer her question. Hope everyone has a great weekend......

P.S. You might have noticed I haven't posted since last Friday. Guess who got hit with the stomach bug? Yup. Me. Today is the first day all week I have felt somewhat normal. I'm hoping to catch up on emails, comments, twitter, and blog reading. I also realized since I was the only one who got sick last week there is a great chance of someone coming down with it this weekend. Lucky me.....

Aloha Friday

It's Friday so it can only mean one thing. It's time for an Island life's Aloha Friday. My question to you is this:

Do you have a must see TV show? One that you almost plan your day or week around? I hate to admit this but during American Idol season,I can become a total Idol junkie. I know. It's crazy considering I am old enough to be their really cool MOM Aunt. My friends and I will facebook and twitter each other during a show. Who should go and who should stay. If you are on twitter and love Idol, feel free to add me. Or even if you don't like Idol and still want to add me. I think I have my Twitter button on the side of my blog. If not just comment you want it and I will post it.

Aloha Friday

It's Friday so it can only mean one thing. It's time for an Island life's Aloha Friday. My question to you is this:

Is Valentine's day a big deal in your house? We decided when we had our first daughter that we would celebrate as a family instead of a couple. My parents had done the same for my brother and I when we were growing up. I usually cook a dinner and we exchange small gifts. I honestly don't like the holiday much. That whole "if you don't have someone special in your life you're a loser kind of thing". I have/had many single friends who used to cry on this holiday. It broke my heart. I never wanted my girls to feel like they have to have a boyfriend in their lives to feel special. And that's why we celebrate as a family. The older they get it's getting harder to do that. 2 out of 3 of my daughters have boyfriends. HA!
