Day 28.....
My kids finally went back to school today after having 9 days off! I'm wondering why we get 9 days for Thanksgiving and only 3 days off for Easter break. It really doesn't make sense to me. I would think Easter would be the bigger holiday that people would travel on. We sent yesterday bringing down Christmas containers from the attic. Today we spent most of the day putting the stuff up. We put a Christmas tree in every room in the house. Our bathrooms get a small tabletop tree. We started doing that when our girls were little. I'm allergic to pine as well as Cinnamon and I wanted to make up for the fact we can't have a real one. This year I'm really rethinking all of those trees. My son can't wait for his tree in his room. I can't find the darn thing. He was almost in tears yesterday because I didn't know where it was. Today wasn't much better. When hubby brought down 3 of the trees he forgot things that go with them. The first tree we tried to put up was missing the pole that all the branches go in. I'm thinking that's kind of important to have. HA! The second tree was missing the tree stand. Ugh. I thought the little guy was going to break down crying AGAIN. I ended up putting the dining room tree up. I really didn't want to put that one up because that's where I have all the Christmas containers stored. I wasn't even half way done and Bubby decided he had enough of tree decorating. Sigh. They are calling for rain tomorrow so I'm hoping to get the rest of the stuff put up.
Oh,the starbucks ornament was a gift from my Mom. Think she knows me too well? I could have used the real drink(s) today. HA!

The Hat
This past Thanksgiving we marked one year without my bil. There are days I can't believe it has been a year. Days were it feels like yesterday. I think back (a lot) to Thanksgiving last year. We were over at my in laws and really enjoying the day. It was our little guys first Thanksgiving. Hubby's niece was almost 4 months pregnant. The first great grandchild. We were all huddled around the computer trying to video chat with bil and his family. His daughters Firefly(4) and Ladybug(7) were just bouncing off the walls. We weren't able to get the live feed working. Bil would send video he recorded and we kept him on speaker phone. It was the next best thing to having all of them there. I remember about a hour after we started chatting,he said he had to go so he could make dinner. My first thought was stay just a little bit longer. Why I thought that, I have no idea. But I did. That was the last time we spoke to him. Two days later he had gotten an ear infection. Not a huge deal. Boy. Were. We. Wrong. On Sunday his health went down hill. He wasn't making any sense. He couldn't walk. When he finally made it to the hospital that night,he slipped into a coma. He never came out. Five days after Thanksgiving my bil was gone. The next few days were a blur. Family trying to get to Alaska. This time of year it's hard to get up there. We were worried about his wife and daughters. They decided to burry him up in Alaska and we had a service down here for the rest of the family. I dream about that Thanksgiving a lot. Only in my dream,I make him stay on the phone. Kind of stupid. I know we can't change the past and our future is all ready mapped out. But still I dream that dream. We miss you Big Brother.
So for now that hat stays in our bedroom.

Love me some turkey and football
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!
Are you one of those families that have the same traditions every year? Do you go to the same house every year? Do you switch every other year? When Hubby and I first got married we did the every other year with his side and mine. Sometime over the years it became his family's holiday and Easter became my family. But for as long as I can remember high school football and NFL football have always been part of the day. There is nothing like rooting for your team. When I was growing up in my 'burg our high school football games were everything. We have one of the oldest Turkey football(high school) games going. I think we are up to 102 years running. I can remember going to my G.mothers house for dinner and the excitement of who was going to win. My uncle was from across the river so his team was our rival. Yep we had some*LOUD* interesting Thanksgivings. LOL. The best part if your team won you got the drumstick!!!!! I'm not sure why, when you are a kid that is a big deal. The family has changed over the years. We lost my G.mother 8 years ago. My uncle is in poor health. The rest of the family? Well they all go other places for dinner. US? Well we have a daughter who cheers at her high school Turkey day games. In her 'Burg. Yep I moved from one 'burg to another 'burg in a different state. What can I say? At least I can spell my town's name. LOL.
I can't post for Thanksgiving and not say what I am Thankful for. Well, that is simple. Hubby. My three girls. My little guy. My family. Hubby's family. Most of all Hubby has another year cancer free. How awesome is that?
I wish you all a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!
